The Adjuster Called. What Should You Say?
Why the first call from the other side's insurer matters more than most people realize — and what you're actually required to provide.
After an accident, the other party's insurance company may call quickly. Their adjuster is friendly, but their job is to protect the insurer, not you.
You are not required to give a recorded statement to the other side's insurance company. Politely decline until you have spoken with an attorney. You are also not required to accept their first settlement offer, which is often far lower than the full value of the claim.
Be honest with your own insurer, but keep your answers factual. Do not speculate about fault, speed, or injuries.
The best response to a pushy adjuster is simple: "I am going to speak with my attorney before discussing the case." This protects your rights and prevents statements from being taken out of context.
