Slip and Fall in Georgia: Understanding Premises Liability

What the law expects of property owners, and how an injured guest builds a claim that rests on evidence rather than memory.

Premises liability is the legal responsibility of property owners to keep their premises reasonably safe for visitors.

In a slip-and-fall case, the key question is usually notice. Did the owner know about the hazard, or should they have known about it? A freshly spilled drink is different from a puddle that sat for hours.

Evidence that helps prove notice includes surveillance video, cleaning logs, incident reports, and witness testimony. This evidence can be deleted or overwritten, so it is important to act quickly.

If you were hurt on someone else's property in Georgia or Louisiana, preserve your shoes and clothing, take photos, and ask for any incident report. Then speak with a lawyer who can evaluate whether the owner's conduct fell below the legal standard of care.
